How it all started...
In 1984, a small group of believers in Madison County began praying for a Pentecostal church to be established in their community. After two years of prayer and faith, Calvary Church of God was officially founded on July 20, 1986, with 19 charter members. Rev. Michael Angel served as the first pastor, leading the congregation from July 1986 to May 1989.
For the next eleven years, the church gathered in a rented building at 439 N.C. 213 East, graciously provided by Mr. Wayne Ramsey. During this time, God blessed the church with seven pastors, each playing a vital role in its growth and spiritual development. Despite limited resources, the church was filled with unity, love, and an unwavering belief that God had a greater purpose in store.
In 1994, God opened the door for a new chapter. The church purchased land and a house at 2285 Skyway Drive, thanks to the miraculous provision of a couple who purchased the house, enabling the land to be paid off entirely. This marked the beginning of God’s promise to provide both the land and the labor for a new sanctuary.
On July 13, 1997, Pastor Ronald Dodson was called to lead Calvary Church of God. With many years of prior ministry experience, Pastor Dodson brought a renewed vision and passion for reaching Madison County. In August 1997, the church held a tent revival on the newly acquired property, culminating in a groundbreaking ceremony for the new sanctuary.
Over the next year, God’s faithfulness was evident as the church came together to build the sanctuary. Volunteers, materials, and labor were provided in ways that could only be described as miraculous. On December 11, 1998, the congregation gathered for the first worship service in the new sanctuary, rejoicing in what God had done. The building was officially dedicated to God’s work on July 11, 1999.
Today, Calvary Church of God Worship Center stands as a beacon of hope, help, and healing for Madison County and beyond. Our desire is to continue serving our community, sharing the love of Christ, and giving all the glory to God.

Expanding the vision...
We are thrilled to share that our vision is growing, and so is the space for our children and youth ministries! While our teens already have their own area, our children currently use the Annex, which is mostly used as our fellowship hall. Soon, they’ll have a space to call their own!
This new area will include a check-in center, space for activities, spirited worship, engaging Bible lessons, and of course, craft projects.
We’re excited to remodel part of the building connected to the Annex into a dedicated home for our children and teens, supporting our vision: by the power of the Holy Spirit, we as a family will ignite all generations to boldly follow Christ in truth, love, and compassion. With this expansion, we are creating the room and resources needed to nurture their growth, learning, and connection for years to come.
